DAILY DISPATCH, Richmond, Virginia, March 14, 1862
* Monitor vs. Merrimack
* Hampton Roads, Virginia
* In a Confederate publication
Although over half of the front page is taken up with ads and notices, there is also much reporting on the Civil War, most significantly some great reporting on this historic naval battle between the new iron-clads the Monitor & the Merrimac.
This reporting, which includes a detailed description of "The Iron-Clad Gunboat Monitor" takes about two-thirds of a column.
Other front page items include; "From Roanoke Island" "The Federal Navy" "More About Roanoke" "An Incident" and more. War coverage continues on the inside with the always-interesting editorial, and items headed: "General Assembly of Virginia" "The Late Battles" "The Great Naval Victory" which references the Monitor vs. Merrimac battle; "From North Carolina--The Enemy Advancing upon Newbern" "War Matters" "Late From the North" "From The Valley" "The Battle in Arkansas" and even more.
Four pages, scattered foxing, irregular at the bottom of the back leaf, some printing creases, otherwise good.
