wikipedia notes: Sohn Kee-chung was a Korean athlete and long-distance runner. He became the first Korean to win a medal at the Olympic Games, winning gold in the marathon at the 1936 Berlin Olympics as a member of the Japanese delegation.
Sohn competed under the Japanese name Son Kitei, as Korea was under the colonial rule of the Japanese Empire during his career. He is the very first athlete who broke the 2:30 barrier in the history of marathon.
