May 01, 1945
HERALD EXPRESS - EXTRA, May 1, 1945 This event has remained one of the most desirable of World War II, and this is one of the better reports we have offered.
See the photos for the dramatic & bold, two line banner head: "ADOLF HITLER KILLED IN BATTLE OF BERLIN" with a subhead: "Nazi Radio Tells of Death, Admiral Doenitz Successor". The text mentions: "...the broadcast implied, but did not directly state, that Hitler was slain in battle with the Russians. the British Broadcasting Company reported that Hitler actually died of a stroke...". Since the war conventional wisdom is that he committed suicide.
The front page also has a photo of Hitler and "Adm. Karl Doenitz" who succeeded him, including the official: "Text of Hitler Death Announcement".
Present is the first section (of 2) with pages 1-12. Very nice condition.
