Journey to Salt Lake City... Verdict in the famous slave case...

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Nov. 4, 1852 Taking over 1 1/2 columns on page 2 is the very detailed: "Captain Stansbury's Expedition To The Great Salt Lake". This is a wonderful account of the journey, about which much can be found on the internet. The subheads include: "From the Literary World" "A Dutchman en Route" "A Happy Family on the Prairie" "Game Been & An Indian's Appetite" "Maine Coffins Outdone" and "A Party of Indian Women".
Page 3 has: "An Important Slave Case Decision" This is the case of Cecil Oliver vs. Daniel Kaufman involving the secreting of 13 runaway slaves from Maryland into Boiling Springs, Pa., via the Underground Railroad. There is much on the internet concerning this famous case.
Portions of the article include: "...was decided in the U.S. Circuit Court at Phila...by the jury rendering a verdict for the plaintiffs in the sum of $2,800 damages against Kauffman (sic) and not guilty as to the other two defendants...This decision settles the fact that juries in the U.S. Courts in Pennsylvania will give verdicts against persons who aid the escape of fugitive slaves."
Also on page 3: "Pursuit of Fugitive Slaves" which begins: "We noticed the escape of some thirty-odd slaves from Mason and Bracken counties a short time ago. Some of them were captured..." with more detail.
Four pages, disbinding indents at the blank spine, nice condition.
