November 08, 1852

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Nov. 8, 1852  Page 3 has an article: "The Icarian Colony At Nauvoo" which reads much like an annual report on the Mormons, with various numbers and statistics on how they are doing. The report ends with: "...During the present autumn ten men will seek a proper place in Iowa for a new & extensive colony. When the foundation of this is daily laid, Nauvoo will, for the future, be but a place for the preparation & proving of new colonists."
Also of interest is a lengthy account of an: "Interesting Slave Case" about which much can be found on the internet. This is the case of Cecil Oliver vs. Daniel Kaufman involving the secreting of 13 runaway slaves from Maryland into Boiling Springs, Pa., via the Underground Railroad.
This report sets the details but most of the report is the: "Charge To the Jury" by the judge.
Four pages, various small archival mends at the margins, various small margin tears, generally good condition.
