May 25, 1847

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., May 25, 1847  Page 3 has a wonderful report headed: "From Santa Fe and California" with much on the situation at Santa Fe, noticing in part: "...All is apparently quiet here...but every observing man knows that we are walking daily over a volcano which is ready to burst upon us if an opportunity offers...that the court at Taos had condemned a number of the insurgents to be hung & that 11 had been executed and a large number whipped..." with more. Included is mention that among those on the expedition was "Christopher Carson", more famously known as Kit Carson, who was a guide for General Fremont at the time.
This report has more fine content on General Kearney and others on their travels in New Mexico and Southern California.
There is also mention of: "...the battalion of Mormons under his command...being joined by Cool. Cooke, General Kearney, with the Mormons and dragons, proceeded to Monterey...".
Four pages, nice condition.
