From Confederate New Orleans...

Item # 688131

February 18, 1862

THE DAILY DELTA, New Orleans, Feb. 18, 1862

* Rare Confederate publication from the deep South

Truly Confederate newspapers from New Orleans are very difficult to find, as Admiral Farragut entered the mouth of the Mississippi in mid-April, 1862 and finally took New Orleans on April 28. Shortly thereafter Benjamin Butler moved in and took control of the city, it surrendering without a fight.
So "Confederate" issues from New Orleans are limited to those published between Louisiana's secession from the Union on January 26, 1861 and the end of April, 1862, just a brief 15 month period.
The front page has some war-related content, while page 2 has two reports with one column heads: "Official From Ft. Donelson" "The Enemy Numbered 70,000" "Federal Loss 1,500 Killed &Wounded. Our Loss 500" & more, plus "Federals At Springfield, Mo." "Federal Cavalry Following Gen. Price" "The Enemy Preparing to Attack Columbus".
Page 3 has a reward ad for a runaway "...negro boy called Gus..." that includes a small engraving of a runaway. Bkpg. ads: "Negroes For Sale" "Negroes Just Arrived For Sale".
Four pages, archival mends to two minor margin tears, & one non-archival mend to another minor margin tear, otherwise good.
