Item # 688123
November 26, 1864
DAILY DISPATCH, Richmond, Virginia, Nov. 26, 1864
* Burning of Atlanta, Georgia
* General William T. Sherman
* From the Capital of the Confederacy
The front page has: "The War News" with various items; "Death of a Midshipman" "Virginia Methodist Episcopal Conference" "Later From The North" "Sherman's March Through Georgia" which takes two-thirds of a column. Other items as well.
The Georgia report includes some overly optimistic comments including: "...the people are cheerful, & that Sherman's great raid is not regarded, by any means, as fatal to the state of Georgia..." but also: "...the view from the summit of Stone Mountain of the conflagration of Atlanta was awful beyond description. The Gate City was 'an ocean of flame' as the fiery waves rose & fell throughout its whole extent..." with more.
The back page has a nearly column-long editorial but is otherwise mostly taken up with advertisements.
Single sheet, never bound nor trimmed, a bit irregular at the edges, archival mends on the back page.
