February 05, 1862
DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, Feb. 5, 1862
* Capital of the Confederacy
Not just a newspaper from the Confederate states, but from the capital of the Confederacy.
The front page includes: "The Grand Yankee Army" "Interesting & Valuable Statistics" "Report of the Sanitary Commission" "Condition of the Army--State of the Camps--How the Soldier is Used & How He Uses Himself--Sickness & Mortality..." which takes nearly three pages. Part of this is the: "Sanitary History of Bull Run".
Page 2 has a lengthy editorial beginning: "The North is about to put the strength of the Federal Union to the test...The tax-gatherer is about to be sent out among the faithful people & the experimentum crucis is now to be applied to the very soul-strings of the Yankee..." with much more.
Also on the inside pages are: "The Fishing Creek Disaster--Accounts of an Officer Engaged in the Battle" "Railroads--Important Financial Schemes in Congress" "The Latest From the North" "Dispatches From Missouri" "and much reporting from the: "Legislature of Virginia".
Most of the back page is taken up with many Acts from the Confederate Congress, many having a military theme.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, very nice condition.
