December 05, 1862

NEW YORK TRIBUNE, Dec. 5, 1862  Among the front page column heads on the Civil War are: "Rebel Overtures for Peace" "An Amnesty Asked from the President" "The President's Proclamation of Freedom" "The Case of Major-Gen. Porter" "From Gen. Grant's Army" "Flight of the Rebels from Abbeville, Miss." "Later from the Rebel States" "Sufferings of Rebel Troops in West Virginia" and much more.
The back page has a very interesting article: "Preparation of the Slaveholders for Emancipation" which includes in part: "The slaveholders of Arkansas & Tennessee are making a wise preparation for the emancipation of their slaves under the President's Proclamation...many of the slaveholders...had already entered into a contract with their slaves to remain on the plantations under wages. they have come to the conclusion that the negroes are quite as necessary to them as they are to the negroes. As laborers they are essential to the South..." and much more. A great article.
Eight pages, minor foxing, nice condition.
