Commercial treaty is 'vanished in smoke'... Very handsome masthead...

Item # 687380

November 15, 1783

PENNSYLVANIA JOURNAL & THE WEEKLY ADVERTISER, Philadelphia, Nov. 15, 1783

* Rare title w/ great masthead

Certainly a prime feature of this issue is the terrific engraving in the masthead, larger and more intricate than most and quite displayable.
Half of the first column is taken up with an ad for "Haym Salomon", a very noted Jewish financier during the Revolutionary War.
Page 3 has a letter from Paris noting: "The commercial treaty, which has been so long negociating with America, is vanished in smoke...Dr. Franklin asked Mr. Hartley if any mention was made of Ireland in his instructions...Dr. Franklin upon this observed, that as Ireland was now avowedly an independent kingdom..." with more.
Much other news of the day, and the back page has a full column of illustrated ship ads.
Four pages, slightly irregular at the spine, very nice, clean condition.
