Item # 687011

June 28, 1849

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., June 28, 1849

* California gold rush - 49ers
* Mormons at Salt Lake City
* Mormonism - emigration

Page 2 has 1 1/3 columns taken up with great content headed: "Affairs In California" which is prefaced with: "The following letter from Col. Stevenson to a friend in New York contains a very interesting statement of the condition of affairs in California".
This is simply a wonderful and fact-filled letter on what is happening in the Gold Rush, with notes on high prices, living conditions, successes/failures, etc.
Page 3 has a brief article: "'African & Texan Slave Trade" as well also a very nice article: "The Mormons and Their New Settlement".
This is a great letter on the wonderful growth among the Mormons from the British dominions, as well as the progress being made at their new home at the Great Salt Lake of Utah. One bit notes: "...John Smith, uncle to the Prophet Joseph Smith, was ordained Patriarch to the Church, holding the keys and powers thereof, same as Father Joseph Smith and Hiram..." with so much more.
Four pages, very nice condition.
