DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., June 7, 1849 Page 3 has: "The Travel Over The Western Plains" which is a very nice letter from Fort Leavenworth which begins: "The amount of emigration over the plains is immense, beyond all estimates. It is predicted there will be extreme distress & privation among the emigrating caravans...".
