CONNECTICUT MIRROR, Hartford, April 20, 1812 The front page has a brief yet historically significant document signed by the President: James Madison, asking Congress to impose: "...a general Embargo be laid on all vessels now in port...for the period of 60 days..." with a bit more. Over half of the front page & much of page 2 have a discussion in Congress of an embargo. The embargo would become law on April 4, and before long war would be declared against England.
Page 2 has another document signed in type by the President: James Madison.
