September 11, 1790

COLUMBIAN CENTINEL, Boston, Sept. 11, 1790

* President George Washington
* John Trumball - American artist
* Benjamin Franklin

The entire front page & a bit of page 2 are a continuation of an Act of Congress concerning the collection of duties, headed with an engraving of a heraldic eagle.
Page 3 has a nice letter signed in type by: George Washington which is concerning the "...elegant barge...." which carried Washington over the river to his formal arrival in New York City. This is followed by an: "Anecdote of the late Dr. Franklin".
Page 3 also has: "The President's Portrait" beginning: "Is finished by Trumbull--and a fine thing it is, designed & executed in his superior style of excellence..." with much more. By the description and the date this is the quite famous painting which currently hangs in the Governor's Room of New York City Hall. It is known as "Washington and the Departure of the British Garrison from New York City", a scene from 1783.
Four pages, minimal loss to a lower corner, very nice condition.
