On transporting slaves across borders... Hanged for murdering a slave...

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Jan. 18, 1853 Page 3 begins with an interesting letter from "A Country Lawyer" headed: "Right of Transit By Owners of Slaves". Also on page 3 is: "Execution" which notes in part: "L. A. J. Stubbs...South Carolina, (who was convicted of the murder of his slave...) was hanged in the Court House square at Bennettsville...this case speaks volumes in behalf of our laws enacted for the protection of our slave population...".
Four pages, small piece from the bottom of the spine affects no text, nice condition.
