October 18, 1845

NILES' NATIONAL REGISTER, Baltimore, Oct. 18, 1845  An inside page has a very historic report on the official opening of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
The report has a small heading: "The United States School of Midshipmen" and begins: "Agreeably to the order of the secretary of the navy, this institution was formally opened at Annapolis, (Md.) on Friday the 10th instant..." with more. Included also is interesting text on why Annapolis is a good choice for the location of the school, and why it was chosen over Philadelphia.
Great to have this report in a Baltimore newspaper, the closest major city to Annapolis.
Also within is: "Mormon War" which is an excellent and detailed report taking about 1 1/3 pages, photos showing only a small portion.
Sixteen pages, 8 1/2 by 12 inches, very nice condition.

As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
