* The Princeton Fugitive Slave

Page 3 includes a notable report on the slave case of James Collins Johnson, who was employed by Princeton University before being arrested as a fugitive runaway.

It reports in part: "...James Johnson, alias James Collins, the fugitive slave ...discovered at Princeton...and delivered over to his owner...having been ironed and placed in a wagon, succeeded in jumping out and making his escape. This caused a fracas...a lady who advanced $500 to buy the negro's freedom...The negro agreed to serve the lady five years..." with more.

There is much about him on the internet, and more than one book was written about him as well.

Four pages, minor archival mend to the back page, very nice condition.
