April 10, 1862

DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, April 10, 1862

* Capital of the Confederacy
* Battle of Shiloh - Tennessee

Not only is this a nice newspaper from the Confederacy, but it is from the Confederate capital and consequently has much page 3 & 4 reporting of politics from the "Confederate Congress".
The page 2 editorial--always interesting to read from this newspaper--begins: "Public enthusiasm has been considerably abated by the intelligence that Beauregard had fought a second battle with the enemy near Pittsburg, on the day after the complete victory of Shiloh, which second battle ended in a retreat of the Confederate army...The character of the victory at Shiloh was indicated in this journal on yesterday. The Confederate generals had determined to make their stand at Corinth..." with much more.
There is a great wealth of fine war-related content in this issue, with page two having: "Lincoln's Brigadiers" "The Latest Northern News--Movements and Spirit of the War" "The 'Union Victories' And Their Effects in the South" "What the Yankees say of the People of Nashville--the Boasted 'Union' Sentiment all a Bubble". Page 3 includes; "The Advance of Gen. Buell--General Beauregard Fallen Back To Corinth" "The Virginia Put Back" "Federal Outrages in Upper Fauquier and Loudoun" "The Battle In Arkansas--Statements of a Participant in the Fight" and more.
Complete in four pages, never bound nor trimmed (desired), very nice condition.
