Dramatic & displayable cavalry charge... Jefferson City...

Item # 684143

November 02, 1861

FRANK LESLIE'S ILLUSTRATED, New York, Nov. 2, 1861  The best print is the very dramatic, tipped-in doublepage centerfold which shows a cavalry charge captioned: "...Steamer Monticello Shelling the Rebel Troops at Chicamacomico...Attempt to cut off the Retreat of the 20th Indiana Regiment Towards Hatteras Lighthouse". This is one of the more action-packed prints of the war.
Other prints include: "Jefferson City, Capital of Missouri" which is a nice city view; "Return of 57 Wounded Soldiers...Captured at Bull Run..." "Morning Mustering of the Contraband at Fortress Monroe" showing slaves; and: "The Loyal Inhabitants of Hatteras Island...Retreating to Fort Hatteras for Protection" has a distracting tape stain. Much related text as well.
Sixteen pages, loss to a portion of the bottom margin of the front leaf only, old tape to an unrelated print, light foxing/dirtiness is mostly near the margins.
