The full front page is a somber print of: "Washington A. Roebling, the Invalid Engineer-in-chief of the Brooklyn Bridge, Watching the Progress of the structure from his Sick-Room on Brooklyn Heights".
Roebling suffered from the "bends" from working under water on the caissons, an affliction he would suffer from the rest of his life.
A wonderful doublepage centerfold captioned: "The Completion of the Great Engineering Enterprise of the Age--Views of the East River Bridge, Formally Opened May 24th", which features 11 views including a great full-bridge illustration.
