DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., June 28, 1844 Page 3 has a rather inconspicuous report under "Marriage", announcing that: "His Excellency JOHN TYLER, President of the United States, was married this morning to the beautiful Miss GARDNER, daughter of the late David Gardner, who was killed at the time of the explosion on board of the Princeton."
An interesting curiosity: John Tyler, who served as President from 1841-1845, has a living grandson to this day. He had 8 children to his first wife, and 7 to his second wife, the marriage reported here. He fathered a child at age 70, and that child also fathered a child late in life, Harrison Ruffin Tyler, still living.
