Beautiful engraving in the masthead...
Item # 683810
October 20, 1785
THE CONTINENTAL JOURNAL & WEEKLY ADVERTISER Boston, Oct. 20, 1785 The beautiful masthead is an early version of the Seal of the United States.
Page 3 has a report noting: "Great Britain, in all probability, will be totally excluded from trading to the United States of North America unless she moderates the unjustifiable rigour of her act of navigation & proceeds upon the same principles of policy that guide the conduct of the other nations of Europe..." with much more.
Another page has: "...we learn that before Dr. Franklin left France, he had an audience of the Grand Monarque at Versailles who made him a present of his picture set with brilliants, worth near 14,000 French Guineas."
Four pages, rubbing damage in the masthead causes some loss but is not close to the engraving.
