Same-day report on the Hindenburg tragedy...

Item # 683559

May 06, 1937

HERALD EXPRESS, Los Angeles, May 6, 1937

* Hindenburg rigid airship disaster
* Pride of Nazi Germany
* Lakehurst, New Jersey
* Nice headline for display

A rare opportunity for a same-day report on the explosion of the zeppelin Hindenburg, which explored moments before docking at Lakehurst, New Jersey in the early evening of May 6.
Virtually all East Coast and Midwest newspapers had already gone to press by that time, but some West Coast newspapers were able to put out an "Extra" edition the same day, this being one.
The large & bold banner headline announces: "ZEPPELIN HINDENBURG BLOWS UP; 100 KILLED" with related subheads and a photo of the dirigible before the tragedy.
Present only is a portion of the first section: pages 1,2,3,4,7,8,9,10,15 and 16. Loose at the spine with some spine loss close to text but not touching any words. Some foxing and minor margin tears.
An extremely displayable issue with this dramatic front page.
