The case of fugitive slave Anthony Burns was a very notable one attracting national attention to the evils of the Fugitive Slave Act, just enacted in 1850. The report gives much detail on the hatred towards the Fugitive Slave Act this incident created, and much sympathy for Anthony Burns.
