July 12, 1681

THE IMPARTIAL PROTESTANT MERCURY, London, England, July 12, 1681

* Rare 17th century publication

This single-sheet newspaper is a fascinating paper published during this time of struggle between Catholics and Protestants in government.
News is almost entirely from England, however the back page has a report beginning "A Capuchin, called by the name of Marcus de Aviano, an Italian, who pretends to perform miraculous things; especially the cure of deafness, blindness, lameness, dumness, etc..." with more on him. In 2003 he was beatified by Pope John Paul II.
Complete as a single sheet issue, wide, never-trimmed margins, 8 by 11 3/4 inches, nice condition.
