THE PENNSYLVANIA PACKET OR THE GENERAL ADVERTISER, Philadelphia, Dec. 11, 1779

* American Revolutionary War
* Great masthead for display

This newspaper features one of the most ornate and decorative mastheads of the Revolutionary War, the words "Pennsylvania Packet" so frilly that it can be difficult to read.
Most of page 2 is taken up with; "An Act for Vesting the Estates of the late Proprieties of Pennsylvania in this Commonwealth", signed in type by: Thomas Paine, who was Clerk of the Pa. General Assembly at the time.
Page 3 has news reports from Charleston including; "...the Hon. Major General Lincoln, commanding the troops in the Southern department, returned here from the Southward." Also mention that Samuel Huntington was appointed President of Congress replacing John Jay who become the ambassador to Spain: "...to negotiate a treaty of alliance, amity and commerce with Spain." Also: "...that the Hon. John Adams Esquire, is appointed Minister Plenipotentiary...to negotiate a treaty of peace and commerce with the Court of Great Britain."
A wealth of ads including a: "Forty Dollars Reward" fort a man who deserted, with details.
Four pages, never-trimmed margins, in great condition.
