Item # 679966

December 26, 1913

EVENING TRIBUNE, San Diego, Dec. 26, 1913

* Italian Hall disaster
* Calumet, Michigan
* Shouting "fire" falsely
* Christmas party

The top of the front page has a one column heading: "DISASTER IN CALUMET MAY END STRIKE" with subheads. (see) Surprisingly this issue is in good condition being from the "wood pulp" era. Very hard to find issues that are not totally fragile from this era in paper.
Complete with 14 pages, small library stamp within the masthead, a little irregular along the spine, generally very nice.

wikipedia notes: The Italian Hall Disaster (sometimes referred to as the 1913 Massacre) was a tragedy that occurred on Wednesday, December 24, 1913, in Calumet, Michigan. Seventy-three men, women, and children, mostly striking mine workers and their families, were crushed to death in a stampede when someone falsely shouted "fire" at a crowded Christmas party.
