FRANK LESLIE'S ILLUSTRATED NEWSPAPER, New York, April 7, 1866 Included is a nearly half page print captioned: "Surf Swimming at Hawaii, Sandwich Islands" with a related article having the same title.
The print shows women lying on boards riding the surf, but none standing on them. This would have to be one of the earlier images of surfing and surfboards to be found, let along an early image from Hawaii.
Sixteen pages, nice condition.
