THE DAILY PROGRESS, Raleigh, North Carolina, Feb. 8, 1865

* Rare Confederate title
* Civil War nears the end
* President Jefferson Davis

 Raleigh was one of the last major cities of the South to fall into the hands of Sherman, surrendering on April 13, 1865, just one day before Lincoln was assassinated. This rare Confederate title is from the latter weeks of the Civil War.
The front page has: "Peace" beginning: "The Local has not abated one particle of his hopes of an early peace. What does it signify that our State commissioners have returned from Richmond & accomplished nothing?..." with more.
The back page includes; "The Habeas Corpus Bill" 'Porter's Report of the Evacuation of Fort Caswell and Other Works" "Treason in Charleston" "General Scott's Opinion of Gen. Taylor" and over half a column headed: "Report of Our Commissioners--Congressional" which is prefaced by a letter to ehe Confederate Congress signed in type: Jefferson Davis.
Other war-related reports as well.
Complete as a single sheet, folio size newspaper in very nice, clean condition.
