LOS ANGELES STAR, California, Dec. 13, 1862  One of the earliest Los Angeles newspapers we have offered, and from the Civil War no less. At this time the population of Los Angeles was less than 5,000.
Articles include: "John Quincy Adams on the Right to Free Slaves in War". Pages 2 and 3 both have commentary on Lincoln's annual state-of-the-union address, with a report which includes much concerning the Emancipation Proclamation and related amendments to the Constitution, and also includes the text of the last portion of Lincoln's Address, signed at its conclusion: Abraham Lincoln
