famous Wright Brothers' flight in 1909...
Item # 677620
October 04, 1909
THE EVENING TRIBUNE, San Diego, Oct. 4, 1909
* Wilbur Wright's Famous Flight
* On the Hudson River and Manhattan
The top of the front page has a two column headline: "WRIGHT MAKES GREAT FLIGHT" with subhead. (see) Surprisingly this issue is in good condition being from the "wood pulp" era. Very hard to find issues that are not totally fragile from this era in paper.
Complete with 12 pages, two small library stamps within the masthead, some small binding holes along the spine, generally nice.
wikipedia notes: On 4 October 1909, Wilbur made a flight before a million people in the New York City area during the Hudson-Fulton Celebration. Taking off from Governors Island, Wilbur flew up the Hudson River to Grant's Tomb, and back to Governors Island for a landing, with a canoe attached to the aircraft's framework, as a safety precaution in the case of ditching.
