Item # 677514

May 17, 1797

THE HERALD; A GAZETTE FOR THE COUNTRY, New York, May 17, 1797  The front page has a terrific account of the launching of the frigate United States from the Navy Yard at Philadelphia. The account is by the builder of the frigate & signed by him in type: Joshua Humphreys.
Page 2 has a terrific item as well being a letter from the Masonic Lodge in Boston to "George Washington" acknowledging his retirement from public office. It is signed in type by the Grand Master, Paul Revere, and 3 other men.
This is followed by Washington's thankful response to the Masonic Lodge, signed in type: Go. Washington.
This is likely the only time we have found a letter from Paul Revere (with others) to George Washington, with signatures in type of both.
Four pages, very nice condition.
