THE AMERICAN MUSEUM, Philadelphia, February, 1788  This is "the second edition' printed in 1789 as noted on the title page.
The issue begins with: "Oration in Commemoration of American Independence" delivered July 4, 1787 taking nearly 4 1/2 pages; "Quakers' Petition Against Slavery" "Description of the White Mountain in New Hampshire". An historic report: "Form of the Ratification of the Federal Constitution by the State of Massachusetts" dated Feb. 6, 1788" which takes over 1 1/2 pages and gives all the particulars of Mass. ratifying the Constitution, signed in type by the President of the Convention: John Hancock. This is followed by a lengthy description of a parade celebrated in Boston for the ratification.
Yet another very historic report on Georgia ratifying the Constitution with a report from Augusta prefaced with: "We have the pleasure to announce to the public that on Wednesday last the convention of this state unanimously ratified the federal constitution in the words following..." and what follows is the formal document, dated January 2. And there is another report announcing that Mass. has ratified the Constitution.
Complete in 96 pages, disbound, full title page, plus a full contents page at the back, 5 by 8 inches, very nice condition.

This title, along with the "Columbian Magazine", has the honor of being the first successful American magazine, both published in Philadelphia. The Museum was published by Mathew Carey and existed from January, 1787 thru the end of 1792.
