March 05, 1827

THE NATIONAL GAZETTE & LITERARY REGISTER, Philadelphia, March 5, 1827  Page 2 has a fine report on the founding of the historic B & O Railroad, the first common carrier railroad and the oldest railroad in the United States.
The report notes in part: "...that the act to incorporate a company to make a Rail Road from the city of Baltimore to some eligible point on the River Ohio, has passed both branches of the Legislature, and has now become a law...Maryland, may therefore, now justly claim the proud and honorable distinction of being the first stature in this Union which has by an act of Legislation, sanctioned the introduction of this new and important means of inter-communication through our country..." with more.
Four pages, very nice condition.
