Great reporting on the Battle of New Orleans, including Jackson's letter...

Item # 676112

February 11, 1815

ESSEX REGISTER, Salem, Massachusetts, Feb. 11, 1815

* End of the War of 1812
* Battle of New Orleans victory
* General Andrew Jackson

A great issue reporting the historic Battle of New Orleans, with the top of the front page headed: "GLORIOUS NEWS From New Orleans!" "Splendid Victory Over the British!" with the text beginning: "...the following important and most glorious intelligence from New Orleans. Gen. JACKSON will be immortalized--the bravery of the Kentuckians, the Tennesseans, etc. shall be handed down to the latest posterity..." with more.
What follows are three detailed letters on the battle, followed by additional items relating to it.
Then inside has over 2 1/2 columns taken up with additional reports, the most significant being: "GEN. JACKSON'S OFFICIAL ACCOUNT Of His Brilliant Victory at New Orleans on the 8th Jan." which is signed in type: Andrew Jackson Major General commanding. Following this are additional reports.
Simply a terrific amount of reporting on this notable battle, which ironically was fought after the peace treaty ending the war had been signed.
Four pages, archivally rejoined at the spine, small piece from a blank, right margins, nice condition.
