A short-live newspaper which preceded the first issue of "Harper's Weekly". This is the volume 1, number 2 issue. P.T. Barnum was a "Special Partner" in this publication.
The front page shows: "The Late Collision on the Mississippi--Loss of the Steamer Western World". Prints inside include a nice half page of: "Nauvoo, from the Mississippi, Looking Down the River" with a related article: "The City of Nauvoo" which was the city of refuge for the Mormons on their trek to the West.
Also: "The Old Brewery, New York" "Destruction of the American Steam Ship 'City of Pittsburgh' by Fire in the Harbor of Valparaiso, Chili".
Perhaps the best print is a nice full page showing the: "Present State of the National Monument to Washington at the City of Washington" showing the partially-completed Washington Monument.
There is also a small & rare print of: Harriet Beecher Stowe with a brief related article: "The Authoress of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' ". Also included is a print of: "Commodore Perry, U.S.N., Commander of the Japan Expedition". And the back page is entirely taken up with a nice print of the: "Present State of the Capitol at Washington".
Complete in 16 pages, all pages are silken with a virtually transparent overlay for protection. Also so prints have areas whitened, likely done for reproduction purposes. Otherwise good condition.
