Petersburg was a critical city to the Confederacy, located not far south of the capital of Richmond, and the focus of a six month long siege when ended in early April, 1865, when Lee withdrew his troops from Petersburg and urged Jefferson Davis to remove the capital from Richmond. The war would end shortly thereafter.
This is an uncommon Confederate newspaper from Petersburg, with much front page war content including items headed: "From Charleston" "Latest Northern & European News" "From The 12th Virginia Regiment" "Bombardment of Fort McAllister" "Confederate Congress" "The Confederate Steamer Florida" "From Port Hudson" "From Middle Tennessee" and a bit more. Page 2 begins with an editorial headed: "The Needle & the Bayonet" and includes a few other item, but is primarily taken up with many advertisements.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper, with scattered foxing, and several folds, but generally in nice condition.
