THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London,  July, 1790  Included is an interesting article on an: "Apparatus of Humanity" with a related full page print captioned: "Apparatus For Communicating Heat to Bodies Apparently Dead". Also a review of a new book: "The Slave Trade Indispensable; in Answer to the Speech of William Wilberforce".
Further on under the heading: "America" is text including: "...General Wayne had been dispatched from Virginia on an expedition against the Cherokee, Miamis, and Chickesau [sic] Indians... their chief warrior, one MaGillivray, a Scotchman, who has long resided among these Indians. General Wayne...had completely routed them after a great slaughter..." with more on this. There is also a report fro Nootka Sound on the Northwests coast of America.
Included are both full page plates called for, one of which is a fold-out.
Complete in 96 pages, 5 by 8 inches, full title/contents page with an engraving of St. John's Gate, nice condition.


A very nice magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
