February 28, 1945

CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE, Feb. 28, 1945

* Raising the Flag color illustration
* Battle of Iwo Jima, Japan
* United States Marines

A fine issue on the famous Iwo Jima flag raising photo, as the front page has a color print headed: "A Message From Iwo" which is a drawing of the famous photo captured by Joseph Rosenthal. Additional text adjacent to the print begins: "These men fought and bled to put our flag there. They must continue to fight to keep it there..." and much more.
Also of interest is the back page taken up with 3 large photos of the invasion of Iwo Jima. One of the photos is captioned: "Marines of 28th Regiment, 5th Division, Wave Under Flag They Put Atop Suribachi, on Iwo."
This photo, also taken by Joe Rosenthal, would have been moments after the Pulitzer Prize winning photo. It is very likely the six Marines in the more famous photo are among the larger number shown here.
Complete in 30 pages, tiny binding holes at the blank spine, very nice, clean condition.
