January 15, 1861

NEW YORK DAILY TRIBUNE, January 15, 1861

* Michael Heilprin - Jewish biblical scholar
* Rabbi Morris Jacob Raphall on pro-slaves
* "The Bible View of Slavery" - Jews - Judaica

Page 5 has a lengthy article: "Slavery and The Hebrew Scriptures--Reply to the Rabbi Raphall".
Dr. Raphall's sermon, given on the President's Fast Day on January 4, was considered controversial as he cites acceptance of slavery in the Old Testament as a defence for it in current times.  This report, written by the noted Michael Heilprin & signed by him in type, takes close to three columns (see for portions).
Complete in 8 pages, damp staining to the bottom third of the issues, a few printing creases do not cause loss of readability.
