December 22, 1860

WILKES' SPIRIT OF THE TIMES, New York, Dec. 22, 1860  On the fourth page under "Base Ball" is a report headed: "National Association Of Base Ball Players".
Held at Clinton Hall in New York on the 12th of December, this report about the fifth annual convention of the association begins: "...The meeting was a very large and enthusiastic one, and the proceedings were of a spirited and energetic character--plainly demonstrating that our national pastime is rapidly and surely winning its way to a proud pre-eminence in the list of American outdoor sports..." and more, with details about the nominating committee and the election of officers.
There are also details about several rule changes and amendments that were adopted, including a reduction in the size and weight of the ball.
In the same column are the very brief summaries and box scores of two baseball matches.
Sixteen pages, some wear and a bit of lite staining in the right margin, some lite foxing. Great to have this report about the players' convention in a sporting journal.
