March 09, 1850

THE GREENSBOROUGH PATRIOT, North Carolina, March 9, 1850  The front page has: "The Southern Convention" and other items which relate to the slavery issue, including a report beginning: "But that any part of California will ever be slave Territory, we must be permitted to doubt...".
Page 2 has a prophetic report: "Mr. Webster - The statement is current...that Mr. Webster has a plan of compromise under consideration, which will be likely to prove generally acceptable & will be introduced at the proper time...".
This was Webster's famous speech of March 7 in support of the Compromise of 1850.
Four pages, very nice condition.
