April 20, 1865

NEW YORK TIMES, April 20, 1865  The first column of the front page has heads including: "THE OBSEQUIES" "Funeral of Abraham Lincoln" "Solemn and Imposing Ceremonies" "A Day of Deep  & Impressive Sadness" "The Funeral Sermon" "Just Tribute to the Virtues and National Services of the Late President" with the balance of the front page taken up with reports concerning the funeral. And near the bottom is a report headed: "A Rumor About Booth".
Some interesting reading in: "Particulars of the Attempted Assassination" of Sec. Seward. Related news on inside pages as well including: "The Rites in Honor of the Dead President--The General Mourning" "The Assassination and the Rebellion" plus "Details of the Surrender of Lee's Army". More such news is on the back page with heads: "The Day of Mourning" "The Metropolis One Scene of Sorrow" and more.
Complete in 8 pages, never bound nor trimmed to it folds out to one large sheet, some creases at folds, good condition.
Great to have these reports in the venerable New York Times.
