August 14, 1850

CALIFORNIA DAILY COURIER, San Francisco, Aug. 14, 1850

* California gold rush era
* Rare Old West publication

A very rare & early newspaper from California which would last only until 1851. This is the volume 1, number 37 issue.
The front page has a letter from San Diego, and an article: "Humoldt & Vicinity" "The Bible" and various advertisements. The top of page 2 has an engraving of the Seal of California. Also inside: "Peep At San Francisco at Midnight" "Improvements of the City" "News by Last Night's Steamer" and other items. Most of the back page is taken up with various "Municipal Laws" and "Official Notices".
Remember that 1850 was the year California joined the Union as the 31st state, in fact it would not happen until 3 weeks after the date of this issue.
Four pages, slightly irregular at the spine margin, very nice condition. A rare opportunity for a California newspaper from the Gold Rush era.
