June 07, 1783

THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, June 7, 1783  Page 2 has a report from "Head Quarters, New York" noting: "In order to save such unnecessary trouble, notice is hereby given that no persons whatsoever are to be admitted into the British lines without having first previously obtained passports...Any persons...without leave...otherwise they will be subject to very disagreeable consequences."
Most of page 7 is taken up with news headed: "America" including an "Order" from the Commander in Chief that the 7th Article of the Treaty be adhered to: "...his Britannick Majesty shall, with all convenient speed & without causing any destruction or carrying away any negroes of other property of the American inhabitants, withdraw all his armies, garrisons & fleets from the said United States...". Another report mentions Loyalists leaving for Nova Scotia, and: "On Tuesday morning Captain Stapleton...of the British army, arrived at Head-quarters with dispatches from Sir Guy Carleton to his Excellency General Washington, announcing the ratification of the Articles of Peace." Other nice reports here as well.
The news from America continues to take most of the back page & includes details o the plight of the Loyalists, and more.
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 1/4 inches, very nice condition.
