DAILY EVENING TRANSCRIPT, Boston, Dec. 5, 1848
* California Gold Rush
* 49ers - mining - miners
California Gold Rush reports from 1848 are rather rare but we've found some through the years, such as this one.
A bottom corner of the front page has: "Gold Mines of California" noting: "These mines are represented as very productive & of immense value...making rapid fortunes by gathering gold..." and a bit more.
Page 2 has: "Guano Versus Gold" which includes: "...several vessels are up for California...rumors are rife of the forming of companies of young men...for gold-hunting expeditions to this new El Dorado. We advise all persons inoculated with the mania...and see a specimen of Californian gold...accounts of the great gold discoveries & throwing overboard a considerable part off his guano replaced it with any quantity of the glistening mineral believed to contain gold..." and more.
Four pages, small folio size, great condition.
