Much on the Mormons...

Item # 672349

November 19, 1857

NEW YORK HERALD, Nov. 19, 1857

* Mormons - Mormonism
* Governor Brigham Young
* Proclamation of martial law
* Utah War declaration

In the issue the day after the historic Proclamation of martial law issued by Brigham Young, this issue continues with much Mormon reporting.
Page 4 has most of a column headed: "The Latest News" "The Mormon War" "The Dispatches of Colonels Alexander and Johnston". One bit from it has: "...I shall endeaver to force my way into the valley of Bear River and occupy some of the Mormon villages, because I am under the impression that the Mormons, after a defeat, will be willing to treat & bring provisions for sale..." and so much more.
Page 4 also has an interesting editorial headed: "The Mormons". And the back page has: "The Utah Expedition" "Burning of the Government Trains--Probable Retreat of the U.S. Troops from Utah".
