NEW YORK HERALD, Jan. 14, 1865 Page 5 has: "Fred. Douglass On The Negro" which reports on his lecture at the Cooper Institute in which he opines on the mission of the Civil War, noting in part: "...the well known negro orator...proceeded to eulogize the race to which he belonged...said some witty and sarcastic thing...The colored men who fought under the American flag (and Fort Wagner and Port Hudson showed that the negro could fight) should be invested with absolute citizenship..." and so much more.
The front page includes: "SAVANNAH" "Sherman's Civil Administration" "THE SOUTH" "The Rebels Disgusted with Their Leaders" "Jeff. Davis Course Not at All Commendable" and much more.
Eight pages, binding slits at the blank spine, nice condition.
