Page 4 begins with a stack of heads concerning the Great Chicago Fire: "CHICAGO" "Graphic Description of the Destruction of the City That Was" "The Loss $475,000,000 and Two Hundred Lives" "The Red March of the Flames" "Mad People in a Hell of Fire" "Thieves & Murderers" "The Reign of Terror After the Ruin".
Page 8 begins with heads: "THE LAWLESS LOWREYS" "Exploits of the Most Extraordinary Gang of Outlaws Known to Crime" "Robeson County, North Carolina, in Anarchy" and more.
The Lowry War is a notable event in North Carolina history. Led by Henry Berry Lowry, whose father and brother were murdered by men of the Confederate Home Guard, a band of American Indian, White and African-American men waged a guerrilla war against the white establishment from 1864 to 1872. He and his gang attained a kind of mythic status.
Page 8 also has reports headed: "THE TRIAL OF BRIGHAM YOUNG" "Federal Authority vs. Polygamy Theocracy" "Judge McKean Overrules the Motion to Quash the Indictment". The report takes most of a column.
Twelve pages, a small classified ad clipped from the front leaf not remotely close to mentioned content, minor binding indents at the blank spine, very nice condition.
